Managing a hip roof with two different pitches.
Roof with 2 different pitch.
Roof pitch ratio and angles.
Look at figure 2a which shows the two differently pitched common rafters.
It shows the image of roof pitch ratios as well as the standard angles resulted.
Blind valleys simplify framing.
To keep the porch roof framing as simple as possible we installed a structural ridge supported by posts at each end with the common rafters landing on top of the ridge.
This measurement is best done on a bare roof because curled up roofing shingles will impair your measurement.
Whilst it may sound ridiculous today they are used quite a lot these days to make a home look a bit more unique than others on the market.
The way to read it is like this.
Lining up the fascia.
Intricate roofs have many parts that incorporate several of the basic roof designs such as a gable roof sitting atop a gambrel or variations of the gable valley roof design using one or a variety of different types of roof trusses also see our very detailed diagrams showing the different parts of a roof truss.
The meaning of the ratio is easier to understand if you take a look at the picture above.
Also different architectural styles will use the same type of roof.
It would seem that lining up the fascias and cornices so you have equal overhangs on both pitches would be impossible since the rafters of the two roofs extend beyond the plate at different angles.
As an example please take a look at the 1 12 ratio image.
So 9 5 8 12 is the secondary roof pitch.
