Roof pitch ratio and angles. Look at figure 2a which shows the two differently pitched common rafters. It shows the image of roof pitch ratios as well as the standard angles resulted. Blind valleys simplify framing.

To keep the porch roof framing as simple as possible we installed a structural ridge supported by posts at each end with the common rafters landing on top of the ridge. It would seem that lining up the fascias and cornices so you have equal overhangs on both pitches would be impossible since the rafters of the two roofs extend beyond the plate at different angles. As an example please take a look at the 1 12 ratio image. So 9 5 8 12 is the secondary roof pitch.
